Qatar ethylene capacity to hit '6mn tonnes a year by 2016'

Qatar: According to a report by Business Monitor International (BMI), Qatar is expected to have an ethylene production capacity of 6 million tonnes per year by 2016. The country's polyethylene capacity is set to reach 2.9 million tpy by 2016, the report said. "Qatar's petrochemicals margins remained healthy in 2011, helping to sustain earnings growth throughout the year. By late 2011, petrochemical prices had returned to near pre-crisis levels, but worries persist over how a potential double-dip global recession may impact Qatari petrochemicals production," BMI said.
