New technology at Doha hospital for detecting foetal abnormalities

Qatar: The Women's Hospital in the Qatari capital, Doha, is set to introduce a new technology to identify abnormalities in embryos, the Peninsula has reported. The new diagnostic technique depends on samples of mother's blood at two months into pregnancy to determine the type of the foetus, blood group and foetus' genetic nature. "The process involves taking samples from the amniotic fluid (water surrounding the foetus) and foetal blood. It will help gather information on any abnormalities of the foetus," said Dr Badruddin Ahmed, head of the foeto-maternal unit at the hospital. [AMEInfo.com]
